STF Sala Silvergruva
This hostel is located right in the centre of the mining region in Sala, furnished in a style that was inspired by miners, including two different phases of remodelling which were typical for their time. History is in the walls here and there are exciting activities in the area for young and old alike.
The building was originally constructed in 1919 as a bachelor hotel for miners, but it was never used for this purpose. Instead it housed a school kitchen, a venue for dances, lodgings for the military during the war in the 40’s, an auction house and, finally, a bed and breakfast when part of the house was remodelled into apartments in the 50’s.
It isn’t far from the hostel to the assortment of activities at the mine. There are a variety of different guided tours at the mines, including tours both above-ground and below, throughout most of the year and a dizzying high-wire adventure course for the bravest souls.
The hostel is in a surrounding of characteristic mining structures, mining tunnels, slag heaps and greenery. For the fitness-conscious, there are bicycles available for rent, indoor and outdoor swimming, an ice skating rink, sports hall, golf course and a relaxing spa at Sätra Brunn.
