Here are the answers to our most frequently asked questions.
At arrival
Reserve your accommodation at least one day in advance. You have access to your huts from 2pm (14h) on arrival day up until 12 noon on day of departure. Kolarbyns reception is not always attended but one of our hosts/guides will meet you for a welcoming at 2pm (14h) if nothing else has been agreed. Please let us know about your estimated time of arrival and please call if you are late.
What to bring
We recommend you to bring weather resistant clothing and footwear, warm clothing for cold nights, camera, binoculars, torch, sleeping bag and pillow (for rent SEK 150, to be reserved in advance), bathing suit, towel, water bottle and snacks.

Toilet & shower
Kolarbyn has several fresh outhouses. We don't have showers but feel free to take a swim in lake Skärsjön or wash yourself in the nearby creek.
Electricity and drinking water
There is no electricity in Kolarbyn, but there are oil torch and candles for your disposal. Each hut also has a wood fire stove. Fresh drinking water is available for you to fetch in our beloved forest well, it is regularly tested and government approved as excellent drinking water.
Bringing your dog
Dogs and other pets are welcome to Kolarbyn as long as they respect the wild plants and animals. Unfortunately, pets are not allowed to join guided tours. We receommend Hankatorps dog hotel in Skinnskatteberg.
Mobile phones
Most cellular phones have decent reception in Kolarbyn and the surrounding area. However, we recommend you to switch off your phones while in Kolarbyn so that you can enjoy the natural silence during your stay.
In case of emergency
A First Aid kit is available in Kolarbyn's storehouse and our guides have gone through basic First Aid training. The nearest health centre is in Skinnskatteberg, 3 kilometers, a general hospital is in Fagersta, 23 kilometers, and the regional hospital is in Västerås, 60 kilometers.
Car parking
Kolarbyn has free car parking lots by the gravel road just 50 meters from the huts.
Canoe and rowing boat
We have one canadian canoe and onw rowing boat that you can borrow. The boats can not be booked. We also have a few life vests that you can use.
Sauna
There is a floating sauna on the lake that you can rent. You have to cut your own fire wood and heat up the sauna yourself. The sauna has room for maximum 10 people.
