STF Hostel Alingsås/Hjälmared

The hostel is just outside the charming café town, Alingsås. Very good areas for rambling, forests and lakes make this hostel an excellent holiday base. Visits to Göteborg and Borås are combined with a morning dip from the jetty and a round of golf.

Hjälmared has a historical background as a State Demesne, and through the centuries it has been owned both by private persons and the Crown. Since the 1950s, the basic activity has been a Folk High School, which is run by SEM (The Swedish Evangelical Mission). The rooms are in both the old house and in newer buildings. The mixture of old and new accommodation and the lounges for relaxing create an atmosphere of charm and intimacy. We rent out canoes and there is a beach-volley court in the area, and also a tennis court, a football pitch and a large sports hall. In the manor house, we serve breakfast and other meals, to order, for groups. We see the drug and alcohol free environment as a plus.

In Alingsås you will experience the inner courtyards of this idyllic town of wooden buildings, small individual boutiques with a high level of service and a slow tempo. The surrounding area is rich in lakes with pleasing bathing places and also forests. During the whole of the month of October the annual event,”Lights in Alingsås” attracts many visitors. 20 km from Hjälmared is the Anten-Gräfsnäs museum railway, where you can have a ride on a steam train.
