STF Hostel Alingsås/Villa Plantaget
In this quaint wooden-house town, cafes and bakeries crowed the streets and offer the best of small town living. The charming yellow villa that houses the hostel lies centrally in parkland, only a half hour drive from Gothenburg.
Alingsås is the potato’s Swedish birthplace, the home of Jonas Alströmer who taught the Swedes to eat golden nolor – which translates to ‘lumps’ and is a colloquial term for potatoes. The potato has given its name to both Nolhaga Park and Nolhaga Slott (castle). Nääs Slott is also a legacy from the period and a popular tourist destination.
By lake Anten lies Gräfsnäs Slottsruin (castle ruin) and park. Here anyone will get their fill of history and beautiful landscapes. An original steam train takes passengers through superb scenery and along the lake to Gräfsnäs castle park.
