STF Hostel Mårbacken/Lekvattnet
During the 17th century many people emigrated here from Finland, bringing with them their unique culture and heritage.
Today the word Finnbygden (Finnish settlement) has become a term to describe the traditions that live on through the culture, names, relics and buildings.
Lekvattnet was one of the villages built by the Finnish people and the hostel once served as a forest station. Today it offers cosy accommodation in cabins and dormitories. There are many animals for children to get acquainted with, and rowboats and canoes for exploring the attractive lake.
Värmland is landscape of woods and crystal clear lakes. There is great paddling and fishing along the Rottnan, a small forest river that winds its way leisurely past the hostel and through the Finnskogen (Finn woods), and is also home to many beavers. It’s well worth a visit to Karmenkynna, a homestead farm museum with several buildings displaying the living conditions of Finns that immigrated to the area.
