STF Hostel Stora Kalholmen
Stockholm archipelago’s first hostel lies on Stora Kalholmen, and is the only building on the entire island. Originally built as a summerhouse in 1914, it’s now a hostel for visitors to the archipelago who seek peace and tranquillity.
There is no electricity or running water at Stora Kalholmen, but there is a wood heated sauna and unlocked doors. The hostel is small and stands proudly on a cliff with views over the water.
It takes about an hour to walk around the island, which forms part of the Hjälmö-Lådna Nature Reserve, and there are endless opportunities for delightful swimming, walking and genuine archipelago experiences. You are welcome to rent a Canadian canoe to explore the middle archipelago from the water.
