STF Hostel Gällnö
On Gnällnö there is silence. The ancient and genuine archipelago environment is well preserved on the island, and cars are prohibited. Despite the calm, the island has seen its fair share of ravaging Danes and Russians.
An oven from a former Russian camp is a reminder of looting during the 18th century.
Gnällnö offers authentic rural life: the grazing cows in the meadow are your neighbours. The first inhabitants came to Gnällnö in medieval times, and lived a tough life of poverty. As time went on, the children of Gnällnö and the surrounding islands were given the opportunity to go to school, and today that very school is the main building of the cosy hostel. Accommodation is in smaller cabins, which have connecting dry toilets and a garden pump for fresh water.
