STF Hostel Älvkarleby
In the middle of the Älvkarlebyfallen (Älvkarleby Falls) lies the island of Laxö, with its ancient seafaring history.
Salmon fishing in the area dates back to the 12th century and there’s a large catch of salmon and trout caught here every season, which naturally attracts many fishing enthusiasts.
The hostel served as housing for engineering troops for many years. The charming officers’ villas have been carefully renovated keeping the wrought iron windows, beautiful wooden floors and mirrored doors all intact. Even the stables, inn and the pharmacy have been given a new lease-of-life.
Apart from classic accommodation, an excellent restaurant and bountiful fishing, the island also offers the northern-most golf course in Uppland in direct proximity to the hostel and the river’s soothing flow. Furuviksparken zoo and amusement park is close by, with animals and entertainment for the whole family.
