STF Hostel Stockholm/Tyresö
STF Hostel Tyresö is situated on a piece of land with a long history. As early as the 15th century the stone castle of Tyresöhus was built on the hill where the hostel now lies.
The castle burned down and during the 1880’s a Rättarbostad (farm supervisor’s house) was built on the old castle foundation, which is now referred to as the Prinsvillan (Prince’s Villa).
The hostel is spread across three buildings: Prinsvillan, Handelsboden (the Store) and Lakejvillan (the Lackey’s Villa). Guests are accommodated in wonderful rooms with stylish furniture and access to conference facilities. It is also possible to stay on the island Notholmen, in the old fishermen’s quarters which have been rebuilt as an addition to the hostel with one four-bed room, two three-bed rooms and one double bedroom. There’s also a small guest jetty for pleasure boats and a shower and toilet for hostel and boat guests.
Prince Eugen, the artist son of King Oscar II and Queen Sophia of Sweden, rented the property for many years for use as a summerhouse. This is where he socialised with his artist friends and it is thought he may have painted one of his most famous pieces, Molnet (The Cloud) on Tyresö. Along with enjoying the history of the hostel and its beautiful surroundings, guests can visit Tyresö Slott (castle), which is next door to the hostel and open for guided tours during summer.
