STF Hostel Bergkvara
Beside the ocean and nestled between Kalmar and Karlskrona lies Bergkvara, once the most important port on the entire coast. Much of Bergkvara remains unchanged and the charm of its seafaring past still exists.
Bergkvara is still influenced by the ocean and shipping today.
The hostel also offers a genuine nautical environment. It was built at the turn of the 20th century as a private home for the widow of a ship-owner, and all the rooms are named after ships. Enjoy peace and quiet in the leafy garden or take a short walk down to the beach for a refreshing swim.
The traditional lighthouse of Garpen is two nautical miles out to sea and can be visited by boat. The Bergkvara Sjöfartsmuseum (maritime museum) displays a complete ship builder’s workshop and a short distance away there is a completely intact ship’s smithy. Golfers have easy access to nearby Möre Golf Course, while for history buffs an excursion to Brömsebro is a must, where a monument was raised to commemorate the signing of the peace treaty in Brömsebro in 1645.
