STF Hostel Åsens by
Åsens by - ‘village of the ridge’ - is Sweden’s first culture-reserve, and is a fascinating example of how many of the villages in Småland looked over a hundred years ago.
The agricultural landscape is very old and restoring the fences, meadows and fields is a constant work-in-progress.
The hostel is spread across three farm buildings, which remain on their original sites. The main building was once a vicarage and more recently a school for village children. The trading shed stocks handicrafts and provisions from local farm stores.
There is also a cafeteria connected to the facility that offers locally inspired lunches and home-baked pastries. There are several nature and culture trails on the reservation for those who wish to explore the surroundings, and golfing enthusiasts can enjoy a round of golf at a course just 5 km away.
