Staying on the train
The STF Hostel, The Train, has been parked on a railway siding since May 1989, in lovely surroundings comprising a park and what used to be allotments, about 200 metres north of the railway station on the west of the main line. A subway under the railway line, or a footbridge for pedestrians and cyclists over the same, will bring you to the cathedral, and other places of interest, in 5 minutes. The train has six coupled-up carriages, and a guard’s van that stands by itself.
The Sleeping-cars
The hostel has three sleeping-cars with a total of 36 compartments in traditional style – a great deal of high-grade wood and chrome. Altogether there are 108 beds. In some of the compartments the partition walls can be opened, making one large compartment with six beds – ideal for families with children.
The Bathroom Carriage
The hostel has a fresh, modern bathroom carriage with 8 showers and 8 toilets. Water and waste water facilities are connected to the municipal mains services.
The Reception Carriage
Check-in is in this carriage. And here you also have available table tennis, table hockey, a pay phone, a guest fridge and anything else you may need.
The Café Carriage
We serve breakfast in the Café Carriage and it also has a self-catering kitchen and a dining area which seats 32. Breakfast is served daily between 07.00 and 09.00. It is also possible to boil eggs, pasta etc here, and there is a microwave oven. Also in the Café Carriage is a reading and relaxing section with14 comfortable chairs, creating a genuine train atmosphere. In what used to be the luggage rack, you will find magazines, books, tourist brochures with tips for outings, board games, and more.
Since the spring of 2005, the Café carriage has offered, free of charge, a wireless internet connection, what is known as WLAN.
There is also an acoustic guitar here!
It is not possible to book your own individual compartment on The Train, but if there are free places, and there usually are, you may have your own for the price of the beds. Two people travelling together are always given their own private compartment!
