STF Hostel Tåkern

Welcome to a homey hostel and café, with a view across Lake Tåkern with its many birds, and close to Rökstenen, Omberg and Vadstena. Enjoy the natural world and go swimming, or relax with locally produced food and drink in our cosy café.

We have retained the authentic nature of the hostel, and hope that you will feel at home. We are also sensitive to the environment and for this reason use sources of renewable energy such as solar heating and biofuel. Our café is proud of the home-baked bread with fruit from our own gardens, food from local producers and organic ingredients.

Staying here opens many opportunities for visiting tourist attractions close by. The very popular lake, Tåkern, with its many birds is right next door. The pride of Östergötland, the dramatic Omberg mountain, falls precipitously into Vättern, and there are many beautiful walks to experience in the natural world. And it’s just a few kilometres to Rökstenen, a mysterious rune stone, and Sweden’s largest.

The town of Vadstena with its imposing monastery and castle, and the largest inland lake in Sweden, Vättern, with its wonderful swimming and fishing, are both just a stone’s throw away. Not only this – we can also offer tarns in the depths of green forests, golf courses in beautiful surroundings and an attractive harbour full of cultural history at Hästholmen.

If you are interested in following in the footsteps of Birger Jarl, a mediaeval Swedish statesman, then maybe a visit to his birthplace at Bjälbo would be of interest. Or why not visit the mediaeval town of Skenninge with its lively summer market?
