STF Hostel Luleå/Gammelstad

Gammelstad’s small cottages huddle close together round the mediaeval church. The cottage buildings date back to the 15th century, and today you will find artists, craftsmen and small shops here. To wander around in Gammelstad is a journey in time, full of delight, which in winter you can experience on a kick sled - you can rent one here. The tourist information office arranges guided tours all year round for those who wish to learn more about how people lived here.

The hostel is on the edge of Gammelstad and is a good example of functional architecture from the 50s. The 50’s has also left its mark on the interior of the hostel and lends atmosphere to the spacious dining room, with its open fireplace, and to the rooms. The rooms are large and light and the number of beds is suited to your exact requirements. During spring 2010 a classic retro-café is opening at the hostel to attract people with a taste for retro.

Gammelstad is situated in a natural setting. In the church wall itself, some swifts have built a, to say the least different, breeding place, which many ornithologists travel here to see. There is a nature reserve right beside the hostel and this, too, has a great deal to offer those who are interested in bird life or just enjoy rambling in the countryside. If you want a glass of juice as you lie reading in the sun, there is an extensive lawn right outside the hostel which will suit you perfectly.

Gammelstad has excellent communications. It is only 15 minutes to the airport and there are plenty of parking places at the hostel. There is a play park for children and a shopping centre in the vicinity. A few kilometres from here is the university “Teknikens Hus” (a science and technology centre), with exhibitions workshops and laboratories. It gives opportunities for educational experiments, discoveries and enjoyment  for people of all ages.
