Borgsjö is an ancient village. Olaf of Norway travelled through here with his soldiers in 1030 and it’s still possible to quench your thirst from the spring that the king himself, according to local folklore, opened with his staff.

Today the area is a quiet oasis with cultural treasures and adventure all around.

The hostel is located in some of the old Spruthusen (fire houses), Kyrkstallarna (church stables) and the former caretaker’s quarters at Borgsjö humbygdsgård, the village centre and hub of the region’s thriving community. During the summer there are many activities in the area, while a traditional Christmas market is held in December offering beautiful local handicrafts.

The surroundings offer great possibilities for outdoor adventures. There is a pool within walking distance and several nature reserves in the area. Borgsjö is a paradise for mushroom connoisseurs from near and far, and has a unique flora including orchids and other rarities that can be found close by.
