Saltoluokta-Kvikkjokk

Move in an exciting borderland between Sarek’s high peaks and the forest country to the east. On the way, you pass several types of mountain nature. Walk over open moors, down through thin mountain forests, travel over large lakes by boat, and take advantage and detour into Sarek.

Even if two of the days are long, the hiking is seldom difficult. The route south from Saltoluokta goes through a flat landscape with alpine bearberry, willows and solitary birches. At Lake Sitojaure, you can sleep at any of the STF huts and take the boat to the other side the next morning. If your legs are strong enough, you can then do an excursion up Skierfe mountain and enjoy the fantastic view over the Rapadalen valley.

The mountain homestead Aktse, where STF has two huts, lies at the entrance to the Rapadalen valley, about halfway between Saltoluokta and Kvikkjokk. It is a place that is worthy of a shorter or longer stay. Do a day tour into Sarek, take part in the history of the Sami people and mountain farmers or simply enjoy the calm and beautiful surroundings.

On the way to Kvikkjokk Mountain Station, several lakes, bare mountain region and old pine forests await you. At Kvikkjokk, the Tarraälven river and Kamajåkkå stream converge. Take the opportunity here to rent a canoe or do a boat tour up the delta of the Tarradalen valley.
