STF Hostel Jokkmokk/Åsgård
Jokkmokk is an historic market place that was founded in the beginning of the 17th century. This is where Sami and merchants met for organised trade, and ever since then Jokkmokk has been a natural meeting place in northern Sweden. Welcome!
In addition to its renowned market, there are many reasons to visit Jokkmokk. Sarek and Padjelanta national parks are nearby and attract tourists from all over the globe. The world heritage site Laponia offers a fascinating insight into the history, lifestyle and traditions of the Sami culture as does the Fjäll- och Samemuseet Ájtte (Mountain and Sami Museuem), also in Jokkmokk.
The hostel was built in the 1920's for the Domänverket (forestry works) as accommodation for its forest ranger. Today it is a homey and cosy place to stay, close to all the sights and centrally located in the middle of Jokkmokk. The winter market is litterally just around the corner.
