STF Mountain hut Unna Allakas
Unna is only two kilometres from the Norwegian border. Cross the border and walk another four kilometres to the Norwegian hut Cunojavrrehytta. A little further is the majestic Storsteinsfjellet, which dominates and keeps watch over the whole area.
The mountain hut is a good starting point for a visit to the old mining area Sjangeli, four kilometres north. Mining was conducted here from the end of the 1600s until 1840. The mining town is nicely located near the beach of a lake and the view towards the Norwegian mountains to the west is fantastic. Today, wood barracks, a stone house and pit reminds us of this era in mining. Gabna Sámi village has a summer camp nearby. Socially structured, a Sámi village or siida is a reindeer foraging area, a group for reindeer herding and a corporation working for the economic benefit of its members all in one.
During the Second World War, the hut was a refuge for the Norwegian resistance movement. Designated Sepal 2 “Anna”, this place was used to plan sabotage and carry out espionage on German activities in the area on the other side of the border.
