Nikkaluokta – Saltoluokta
A mountain hike with numerous impressions. Blue-green valleys with large lakes, expansive mountain moors and the most enchanting views. Keep your eyes open and you can meet and experience many exciting moments. An elk on a morning walk near Lake Kaitumjaure, a mountain climber on the way up ‘Siluetten’ or a sea eagle hunting for food in Lake Teusajaure.
After a few hours of hiking from Nikkaluokta, you will see one of the mountain’s most photographed silhouettes, with Tuolpagorni front and centre. Many choose to overnight, eat and sauna at the Kebnekaise Mountain Station. You can follow along on day tours with guides from the mountain station to Kebnekaise’s peaks.
The journey continues west via the awe-inspiring passage between the rough, steep walls of Singitjåkkas and Skárttoaivis. At STF Singi, you walk straight onto Kungsleden itself (Royal Trail). The southern route towards Saltoluokta has less traffic on it, thus reinforcing the wilderness feeling. But here there are also comfortable mountain huts for shorter day trip distances.
You pass deep, lush valleys and expansive mountain moors. The hills up and down from bare mountain region provide a serious workout session. On stretches across the mountains, you will receive a visual ecstasy when you gaze out over the long and narrow lakes and u-shaped mountain sides. If the visibility is good, you can see straight into Sarek.
With the boat from STF Teusajaure, you reach the continuation of Kungsleden through Stora Sjöfallets National Park. You arrive when you reach the large Lake Ahkkajaure. All hikers essentially finish their journey by bus from STF Vakkotavare towards Saltoluokta. Spend a few days at the mountain station and enjoy mountainous day trips and wonderful three-course meals.
