Around Kebnekaise

The Kebnekaise massif is Sweden’s most high alpine environment, which only Sarek comes close to. You can hike around the entire mountain and experience everything from Sami camps to glaciers. A classically-styled adventure where the Kebnekaise Mountain Station is the natural starting and ending point. Along the way, you can stopover at STF’s mountain huts.

This tour belongs to the most varied in the Swedish mountains. You essentially hike through different types of nature each day. The south side’s flat valleys lined with dark ridges. The extensive mountain valleys with high peaks nearby to the west. The stony, steep passes around Nallo to the north and the forest that begins at STF Vistas.

Finally, the long stretch over the bare mountain region to the Tarfala valley, where Kebnekaise shows its most dramatic side and glaciers roll down the mountains. You will appreciate that the way back to the mountain station is short and mostly downhill.

If you add the hike to and from Nikkaluokta, you should reserve at least seven days to the tour. There is a shorter and more demanding stretch that professionals can carry out in two days. But why stress? In certain cultures, it is a holy act to walk around a high mountain – the journey around Kebnekaise can be both a spiritual and physical excursion.
