STF Hostel Persåsen
The Persåsen hostel, south of Östersund, is a unique accommodation facility, combining cosy cabins with a craft house where craftspeople from all over Sweden gather to exhibit their work.
During the year several exhibits in visual arts, metal, ceramics, wood and traditional Sami handcrafts are held.
Guests stay in timbered 4-bed cabins with a shower, toilet and small self-contained kitchen. There are guided tours explaining the ancient culture of the woods, as well as the new potential uses for its timber. The area from Persåsen and towards the mountains is famous for its fäbodar – traditional pastoral huts. Persåsen is renowned for its great food that is inspired by the riches of the mountains, lakes and woods of Jämtland.
Jämtland is a haven for ski enthusiasts and jig fishers. The region also holds a wealth of possibilities during summer, when the focus on the mountains turns to hiking and cycling. The countryside around Storsjön, Sweden’s fifth biggest lake, is exceptionally beautiful and diverse with a rich cultural heritage. There are panoramic views over majestic mountains and glittering lake waters, which just might contain a sea monster if the rumours are to be believed.
