Hiking Sylarna
Borderless experiences
A borderless hike around Sylarna, or Sylane as it is called in Norwegian. The trail goes over rolling bare mountain regions, with Sylarna’s dramatic peaks, glaciers, and precipices in constant sight. Here, the Norwegian hut feeling meets the modern enjoyment of STF Storulvån. You also meet two food cultures, both with character from the ‘pantry’ of the surrounding mountains.
This Swedish-Norwegian round trip can be made from several different starting points in both Sweden and Norway. The most usual and easiest is to start in Storulvån and walk via Blåhammaren to Storerikvollen and Nedalshytta hut on the Norwegian side. An especially dramatic event occurred here during the New Year of 1718-1719, when Armfeldt’s soldiers attempted to find their way home in a snowstorm from Tydal in Norway to Handöl and Duved in Jämtland. Several remembrance memorials and documents recount this tragic period for the people in these borderlands.
From Nedalshytta hut, continue through the magnificent Ekorrpasset, down from Templet, which with its 1,728 metres is the highest Swedish peak in the massif up to the Sylarna Mountain Station. The circle ends in Storulvån. Estimate five days for this tour and add on a few more days for tours in the surrounding area. Why not go along with the guides from STF Sylarna on an alpine ski tour?
