STF Hostel Söderhamn/Växhuset

This hostel, situated in southern Hälsingland, offers accommodation inspired by ecological thinking. It even features an ‘Eco Centre’: a knowledge and inspiration centre for sustainable development.

The hostel is beside the Edesjön, a small forest lake offering plenty of good fishing and bathing. Borrow a rowing boat and fishing rod to try your luck, or just enjoy paddling about in the evening sun. An eco and nature trail leads you up the mountain slopes of Djupdalsberget; from the top you have an extensive view across the lake and the Ljusnan river valley.

A café is situated in the hostel’s lush greenhouse and the ecological kitchen serves vegetarian and well thought out dishes with an emphasis on local ingredients. There is plenty of space for children to play, and they are welcome to feed the hens. There’s also a boule pitch and small children’s playground with space for kubb, an ancient Swedish game played with wooden sticks.
