STF Hostel Åsa
Åsa has long attracted visitors from Göteborg ,who were quick to take advantage of the railroad that reached outside the city. Many classic turn-of-the-century seaside resorts on the West Coast still thrive today, like a strip of pearls along the coastline
Today salty baths and lazy days spent in a vibrant cultural village still attract visitors in large numbers to the place where the cliffs of Bohuslän and the long beaches of southern Sweden meet. The hostel is situated in a former summer camp for poor children from Jämtland. Today the building is a restored and much-loved hostel. There are still activities and camps for children arranged here, nowadays under IOGT’s supervision (the Swedish temperance organisation). Åsa is situated on a peninsula that is also a designated nature reserve. The moors that stretch across this strip of land offer breathtaking views over the ocean. There are also several Bronze Age stone mounds that are silent witnesses to the strategic defense position the peninsula has held throughout history.
