STF Hostel Göteborg/Stigbergsliden
Stigbergsliden is situated at the heart of Göteborg’s ruthless naval history. Mastuggskyrkan, which translates loosely to 'Mast Builder's Church', serves as a navigational beacon on the mountain behind the hostel.
The Maritime Museum (Sjöfartsmuséet) with its sculpture of a naval officer’s wife gazing anxiously over the ocean, is just a few hundred metres away.
Since 1854 this beautiful old house has been a meeting place for people embarking on or returning from new adventures. Back then it was the Mercantile Marine Office of Göteborg; now it serves as a delightful hostel. The Mercantile Marine Office was a social institution: seamen came here to sign on each time they went on or off a ship. Today the hostel is a calm oasis with a social atmosphere in the middle of the city buzz.
The hostel offers easy access to everything that Göteborg has to offer. Linnéstan, with its wide range of restaurants and cafes is within walking distance, while the city centre, Brunnsparken and Avenyn is just a 10-minute tram ride away. A 20-minute tram journey takes you out to Saltholmen and the archipelago’s swimming rocks.
