STF Hostel Ovansjö Kronopark/Jägarstugan

Experience the real natural world and the silence of the forest in Jägarstugan, in Ovansjö Kronopark in Gästrikland. You can spend the night here in a simple charcoal-burner’s hut, and just as you fall asleep to the sound of the crackling fire you may be lucky and hear the wolf howling, or an elk cow calling her calf. Larger groups can sleep in our rustic Eldpallkoja, which has space for 18 people, with an open fire in the middle. And during the summer, we offer overnight accommodation in two military tents, with space for approximately 40 people.

The days at Jägarstugan are filled with peace, experience of the natural world, and everyday activities such as fetching water from the spring, chopping wood for the fire and cooking at one of the many fireplaces. For interested visitors, Sara and Johan can offer activities such as elk safaris, predator guiding, nature photography and ant safaris, the latter intended for children who want to learn more about life in the Swedish forest. Maybe you prefer to creep along the Borrsjö stream on your own, trying to catch some of our fine brown trout.

The host at Jägarstugan, Arne, is happy to reveal the locations of special places close to the hut, and he can fix a bun and coffee snack made over the open fire at the Jägarcafé. Jägarstugan is suitable for use by people with disabilities, and the nature reserve has wooden ramp so that people who use wheelchairs can experience the natural world in the reserve.
