Gävle is perhaps best known for its massive flaming Christmas goat made of straw, but has a lot more to offer than just that.
The hostel is in the middle of a genuine and culturally historic part of town called Gamla Gefle, where visitors are transported almost 300 years back in time. This quarter of the town has become a small Montmartre, with many artists and craftsmen choosing to have their businesses here.
During winter many people come to Gävle to ski on Kungsberget or to see the home team Brynäs play ice hockey, while nearby Furuviksparken has entertained young and old for over a century with its circus and giddy carousels. The country’s first whisky distillery is also in Gävle, and welcomes visitors to learn more about the distillery process and taste the noble brew.
