STF Hostel Avesta
Avesta is famous for being the world’s biggest… well at least for having the world’s biggest wooden horse and biggest coin. But perhaps Gamla Byn (the old village) in Avesta, which dates back to the 1600s, offers the most charm.
It is an absolute delight to stroll through the village and experience the atmosphere of four centuries.
The cosy hostel is located in a quiet residential area near the Dalälven river, just outside the town centre and has pleasant double and family rooms with well-equipped kitchens for self-catering. Here you can sit on the balcony or in the garden and enjoy fresh air and birdsong.
If you want to enjoy the Dalälven you can borrow a rowboat or canoe or take a refreshing dip from the jetty. On the cultural side there’s an old glassworks, now called ‘Verket’, which has been turned into a wonderful art cathedral. Every second year Verket and Avesta Art get together for a major international art exhibition. Other activities include go-carting, riding Icelandic horses, golf and speedway.
