STF Hostel Stenungsund/Jordhammars Herrgård

Jordhammars Herrgård lies peacefully by the sea just north of Stenungssund, with a riding club, market garden and elegant church as its nearest neighbours. Swimming, comfortable living, good food, rambling and fishing in Svartedalen are all on offer her.

You can see the sea from the manor house windows and it’s just a short walk down to the swimming jetty, with a larger swimming beach just a short cycle ride away. The Bygdegillet dance pavilion is also next to the sea, with the boule ground. This can be used for playing boule and other outdoor games such as kubb and croquet.

Our nearest neighbour is Stenungsunds Ridklubb, and you can book a riding event at the hostel reception. Why not take a riding excursion, or polish up your dressage skills in one of the riding halls? Riding is a wonderful experience, and can be enjoyed either by individuals or as part of a conference.

The surroundings offer fine opportunities for cycling, rambling and fishing, both on Orust and in the Svartedalen nature reserve, with its lakes and paths. Sea trout can be fished in the bay outside of the hostel. Both Orust and Tjörn have golf clubs, and you can play on a new course every day while staying with us.

The lunches at the manor house are very popular, and we organise wonderful buffets on Sundays with all the delights of the season. People come from afar to buy our bread, our homemade balsamic syrup and the local speciality, äggost (egg cheese), which is eaten with cream and blackberry jam, which – by the way – is also homemade. There is a market garden next to the manor house where vegetables and flowers can be bought during the summer months.

The manor house is a popular place to hold a wedding reception. The church, which is the only one in Sweden where the tower faces the wrong direction, lies across the meadow, and the riding club is always happy to help with horse and wagon for the bridal pair. And if you prefer a 1950s souped-up greaser car, then that’s available locally as well.

Jordhammars Herrgård is just 2.5 km from central Stenungsund, but is deep in the heart of the Swedish countryside. Many tourists come here to use the manor house as a base for exploring the archipelago, or for other day trips such as visiting the many artists in the region or the Nordic Watercolour Museum, or for a shopping trip at Göksäter – a shopping experience out of the ordinary.
