STF Hostel Ljungskile
The charming town of Ljungskile lies between the sea and the sky, with the forest on one side and the imposing ocean on the other.
Ljungskile is home not only to a fine STF hostel but also the largest kayak centre in Sweden, with over 50 models to choose from.
The hostel is part of the Ljungskile Folk High School and our guests are housed in the old “Kavaljersgården”, which has taken its name from a novel by Sweden’s Nobel Prize-winning author Selma Lagerlöf. This was the hall of residence for male students, and it was forbidden to have female guests in the rooms right up until the 1970s. The stoic atmosphere of calm enhances your beautiful view of the sea, only a few minutes’ walk away.
Guests at the hostel have ready access to a fantastic range of outdoor activities including forest rambles, kayaking and sea-bathing from sandy beaches or from rocky cliffs. Golf is a major activity at Ljungskile and is played at the distinguished “Lyckorna” golf club, against the backdrop of the ocean. Local attractions include Smögenbryggan with its quaint huts, Swedish troubadour and song-writer Evert Taube’s haunts at Flatön, and the Vitlycke Museum with its unique bronze-age rock carvings. A wonderful walk in the footsteps of Göteborg’s high society will bring you to the place where King Oscar II carved the rock.
