During the 19th century large numbers of Swedish society stayed at Gustafsberg. This was the beginning of what would become Sweden’s first seaside resort. The hostel is wonderfully situated in an old bathhouse located along the popular beach promenade.
You can hear the water lapping from most of the rooms and there are beautiful nature walks close by.
The oldest part of the hostel was rebuilt into a bathhouse in 1814. At the end of the 19th century it was extended into an L-shaped house and took on the appearance it has today. Guests can stay in twin bedrooms or dormitories that were once decorated bathing cabins.
The seaside restaurants Gustafsberg and Café Snäckan are open in summer and offer meals, cakes and pastries from Bohuslän. The Upplevelseladan ‘Adventure Barn’ with indoor activities is nearby, as well as a kayak-hire for trips on the Byfjorden.
